Demonstrate Patriotism The Fourth Degree is the VISIBLE arm of the Knights of Columbus via the Color Corps. The Color Corp appears in parades, attends funerals, escorts the bishop, and appears at other special events. The Fourth Degree was establish February 22, 1900. The primary purpose of the Fourth Degree is to foster the spirit of patriotism by promoting responsible citizenship and a love of and loyalty to the Knights' respective countries through active membership in local Fourth Degree groups (called "assemblies"). Certain members of the Fourth Degree serve as honor guards at civic and religious functions, an activity that has brought worldwide recognition to the Knights of Columbus Reasons for joining the Fourth Degree 1. Show both a personal and group commitment to patriotism and to support our American way of life. 2. Establish and strengthen liaisons with Brother Knights from other councils 3. Participate in the Color Guard 4. Camaraderie with good Catholic gentlemen 5. Visible support to the Church and Country 6. Complete of all degree steps 7. Either a Chalice ceremony at your funeral or a perpetual masses after your death Membership Requirements 1. Be a Knight for at least six months. 2. Be a Third Degree in good standing (Priest and military are exempted) 3. The official dress for candidates for the Fourth Degree Exemplification is: Black Bow Tie, White Straight Collar Shirt, Black Tuxedo Shoes, and Black Tuxedo. A member of the armed services of his country shall be considered in proper attire when dress in military uniform. 4. The regalia of the Fourth Degree is the official dress and social baldric. Truth about Common Misconceptions and Myths 1. Members do not have to purchase Regalia or participate in the Color Corps. It is strictly a voluntary honor. 2. No fund raising or other organizational events are involved beyond monthly diner meetings, occasional social and an annual Memorial Mass 3. Does not detract from your Council involvement |
